I was asked to design a fundraising piece for the St. John Center, a day center for chronically homeless men. After meeting with the Executive Director of the center, Sister Mary Kathleen Sheehan, we decided to couple descriptions of the center’s history and mission with portraits of some of the clients and their testimonials. The result was very well received and below are a few responses. The first is from Sister Mary Kathleen: Dear John, Everyone who looks at it comments about how you captured the men’s eyes. It is very impressive. ...Bless you for sharing your talent with us in order to make others aware of so many men broken and sick who come to St. John’s daily. The following is from the Board Chair: Dear John Bailey: I want you to know how very grateful and thrilled we are with the absolutely beautiful work you did for our organization by simply and honestly designing the best darn brochure I have seen for a very long time. The first time I asked a friend to give me some money for St. John Center and could include the brochure, I received a call within 12 hours and was given $5,000; all because of the visual she had before her. She wanted to know the stories, she responded to your intuitive and thoughtful photography and design. You have given us a great gift. Anytime you might be looking for letters of recommendation, we stand ready with pen in hand and hearts full of thankfulness. With admiration and appreciation, Sue Speed, Board Chair, St. John Center |
